Autism,
evidence of error?
Eileen Nicole Simon
- Autism has many causes. Complications at birth are well known. A lapse in
respiration at birth can lead to damage of the midbrain auditory system.
- Damage of the same auditory centers results in loss of speech understanding in
normal adults. The same midbrain auditory system impairment must surely be
much more serious for an infant.
- Obstetric protocols adopted since the mid-1980s include clamping the umbilical
cord immediately at birth. This can lead to a lapse of respiration, and should be
investigated as a possible cause of the increasing prevalence of developmental
language disorders and autism.
