Brain maturation was not normal in asphyxiated monkeys allowed to survive several
months to years.  Developmental course was disrupted in many brain structures
that have been implicated as abnormal in autism.  Likewise, the developmental
trajectory was not normal for monkeys subjected to asphyxia at birth.  Manual
dexterity was a primary persistent problem, and this can be compared to poor
manual dexterity in many (if not most) children with autism.
